Fathers Day Gifts – 10 Gifts For Dad To Show Your Appreciation

Posted by - Categoriezed under: Chocolate Pretzels

Fathers Day is on the third Sunday in June.  For 2010, Fathers Day will be on June 20th.  This holiday was initiated in 1909 by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. She proposed a church service dedicated to fathers on June 5th, her father’s birthday.  Mrs. Dodd’s father, William Jackson Smart, was a civil War veteran.  His wife died early in childbirth.  He refused to remarry and single-handedly raised his 6 children. Mrs. Dodd wanted to recognize the sacrifices her father made in raising herself and her brothers, and to acknowledge fathers everywhere.  However, since her minister needed more time to prepare for the sermon, the father’s day service was conducted on June 19th, a couple of weeks later.  The state of Washington celebrated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day from then on. Pennsylvania is widely known as the birthplace of modern United States and the cradle of blooming democracy in the face of British persecution, as well as numerous revolution-era battlefields. However, Pennsylvania also boasts a booming economy on two shores, some interesting cuisine contributions to the American diet, and the well known Amish community in its countryside. Explore the nation’s foundations this season!
As the center of the independence movement, Pennsylvania is a state of firsts for the United States, including the country’s first capital in York where the Articles of Confederation were drafted and a nation was established. Consequently, the origins of the U.S. Marine Corps were founded in Philadelphia as the Continental Marines. Pennsylvania is home to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was drafted and signed, in Philadelphia.

Rest assured, though, that Pennsylvania is not all salty. The United States chocolate industry is based in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where the namesake company has its headquarters, major manufacturing, and a tourist exhibit open to the public. Other major factories nearby include See’s Candy, Mars and the Wilbur Chocolate Company.
Pennsylvania is also the famed home of the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, the hoagie, Italian ice (similar to shaved ice), soft pretzels, the stromboli, and even Heinz Ketchup. The popularity of these local foods can be witnessed at the numerous professional sporting events throughout Pennsylvania, but centered in Pittsburgh.
